Clarinets

“I am happy to recommend Cal’s work.  Cal performed some major repairs and restoration on my Buffet clarinets, which were showing signs of age and wear after many years of use in the Melbourne Symphony.  I was delighted with the work which has maintained the instruments at the professional level I need.”

– Ian Morgan, Former MSO Principal Clarinet

All prices below are a guide only. You will be given an accurate quotation when the instrument has been inspected by a technician. If we find that extra work is required after commencement of the quoted work, we will contact you. We will then discuss options and pricing prior to commencement of any extra work. Repad & Overhaul for Resin and Plastic Clarinets

Repadding and/or overhaul work on resin or plastic clarinets is undertaken on a case by case basis.

The reason for this is that until we have inspected the clarinet we are unable to determine how much work is required and unfortunately sometimes the amount of work required outweighs the price of an equivalent instrument.

Servicing Contracts: This is a new and very sensible concept. Select a fixed term servicing agreement (eg. one year) with one easy up front payment. You can visit us as many times as you wish during the selected period and pay no more (unless there is damage to your instrument). This is ideal for students or professional players who do a lot of playing. We book times in advance – normally at either bi-monthly or quarterly intervals. Please visit and talk to us about the options.

Spend time with us, the technicians – this is another way we can improve your instruments performance. By adjusting spring tensions, key heights and in some cases moving or customising key positions, we can greatly improve the playability of your instrument. We can help your instrument “fit you” much better.

Allow us, the technicians, to assist you in your next instrument purchase. If you are buying a new car you should talk to a mechanic. Buying your first/next/another instrument is very, very similar. Technicians have their heads and hands on instruments every day and they know good construction, how construction affects sound production, how plating is affected by different geographical and environmental conditions. Like all players, we have our favourite brands and models and a sound that we like, BUT a technician will always ask what are you looking for? What sound are you after? How much playing will you be doing? How much do you have to invest? The setting that you will be playing in and much more?
